Random "Get to Know You" Questions

I got this by email, but since I have a website, I figured I could post it here, rearrange it, and add things. And then there's the fact that's I've seen dozens of variations of this over the last ten years, and I got tired of filling them out. (Originally posted in June of 2003. Updated every time I get one of these things in email, adding a question or two each time. Most recently updated: 8/19/08)

    What is your....

  1. Favorite color?
    • Midnight Blue (a dark red, garnet, comes in second)
  2. Favorite metal? (gold, silver, copper, etc...)
    • Platinum
  3. Do you prefer cats, dogs, or some other kind of pet?
    • Cats
  4. Favorite kind of car?
    • Classic E Type Jaguar
  5. Favorite flower?
    • rose, unusual colors preferred
  6. Favorite movie(s)?
    • Labyrinth, and Stealing Beauty (I seem to really like coming of age movies best)
  7. Favorite author(s)?
    • Charles de Lint (others: Michael Moorcock, Anne Rice, Terri Windling...)
  8. Favorite Book(s)?
    • Alice in Wonderland, Forests of the Heart (de Lint), All the Elric books (Moorcock), and the original Interview with a Vampire trilogy (Rice. The series that followed was weaker.)
  9. Favorite Band(s), or Music?
    • Perfect Circle, Tool, KMFDM, Portishead, STP, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, and of course Aerosmith will always stay on this list. It's hard to nail down a single area of music I like. I went from 70s rock, to 80s metal, to 90s goth-industrial. My ipod has a weird mixture of the bastard children of all that.
  10. Do you drink alcohol? If so, what is your favorite?
    • Yes, Mai Tai's and Hot Buttered Rum (it's all about the rum) I don't drink any beer or wine.
  11. What's your favorite non-alcoholic drink?
    • Jasmine tea
  12. What's your favorite ice cream?
    • Homemade vanilla, or Phish Food.
  13. Favorite foods?
    • I don't much care for food in general, anyone who knows me, knows that. I'd live on good bread and vitamins if I could get away with it, and I'd supplement that with truffles, caramels, and other yummy sweets.
  14. Are you a good cook?
    • Yes, despite the fact that I don't like to eat. I enjoy cooking and baking for others on occasion.
  15. Favorite season/time of year?
    • Spring
  16. Favorite day of the week? Why?
    • The standard work week generally ruins Mondays, but the rest of the week is all good, just depends on how you choose to spend your time.
  17. Are you a morning person?
    • No, I hate mornings, good thing my boss doesn't ask me to punch a clock. Oh, and I'd rather not see the sun rise unless I'm still up from the night before.
  18. What is one thing that makes you happy?
    • Being gently woken up by my sweetie with kisses and snuggles in the morning.
  19. What is one thing that irritates you?
    • Children, mainly the badly behaved sort, but honestly I have very little patience for them in general.
  20. Describe a hobby and what inspires you to do it?
    • I love to take pictures, and my favorite thing is to take nice portraits (that please the subject) of friends who claim that they don't ever like pictures of themselves.
  21. What is one personality trait that really impresses you in others?
    • A good listener, with a kind heart.
  22. What is one personality trait that really irritates you in others?
    • Arrogant and close minded. ie Someone who states their opinion loudly but doesn't actually engage in conversation. Another version of this is someone who is constantly contradictory. Almost everything they say is in direct contradiction to something that somebody else has just said.
  23. Where would you like to retire?
    • Hmmmm, I'm still trying to decide where I want to settle down for the adult portion of my life. I've been thinking that Fremont seems nice. Capitol Hill had it's conveniences but it got to be too noisy and smelly. Vashon Island had the cleanest air I've ever lived with. I had no allergy or sinus trouble the year we lived there. But there isn't much to do out there, and it's rather a pain (expensive & time consuming) to have to take the ferry off island for most things. Now we're back on the mainland, in a lovely house, in a so-so neighborhood, but we will be moving again by Spring 2009. Somewhere in Seattle proper, maybe closer in, maybe north of downtown, would be nice. So long as it's somewhere I get to stay put for more then one year (prefer at least 5).
  24. How did you celebrate your last birthday?
    • Small party at home with a dozen friends, and separately: dinner at mom's house.
  25. Do you carry a donor card?
    • Nope, I don't donate to human causes/charities, with money or otherwise. 6.3+ billion and counting. The human race doesn't need my help.
  26. Do you volunteer or donate to anything?
    • I have a membership to the Zoo. I sometimes give money to orgs that are trying to save the tigers. I sometimes volunteer to help spoil my friends on their birthdays. Oh, and I help friends move when I can, because so many people have helped me move over the years.
  27. What's the worst pick up line you've ever heard?
    • "You'll do." But I've only ever heard it talked about as a pick up line, I haven't ever seen/heard someone actually use it seriously.
  28. How many times have you moved?
    • 18 or 20, depending on how you count it.
  29. What was the first band you saw in concert? and How old were you when you went to that concert?
    • Whitesnake : 12 (first concert without my mother, I have vague memories of being taken to a Blues Brothers concert when I was 8, and I know we went to see the Moody Blues when I was 10 or 11)
  30. What's the last thing you bought yourself, just for fun?
    • A couple of used music CDs.
  31. Do you have any kids?
    • Nope, and I never intend to have any.
  32. Are you superstitious?
    • Yes, it's fun.
  33. Do you wear contacts of glasses?
    • Glasses. Not being a morning person, the idea of poking myself in each eye first thing after getting up, never sounded like a good idea.
